"Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens." — Louise Hay
Last week I wrote about the benefit of addition focused habit change (if you missed it, you can can check out that post HERE).
And while I still encourage you to put your attention on the healthy habits you can ADD to your day rather than the "bad" habits you need to break,
👉 SUBTRACTION still has its place.
However, it might not be in the way that you think it does.
You see, most yo-yo dieters focus on removing the "bad" stuff...
Things like alcohol, soda, sweets and fried foods.
But that's only ONE category of "bad" stuff.
And, to be honest, it's not the category you need to put your attention on if you REALLY want to change your life for the better.
Because the SECOND category of "bad" stuff is what will make or break your success at building new habits and improving your health.
And it's all the stuff that falls under the category of "being an a**hole to yourself".
Which includes, but is not limited to:
Having an all-or nothing-mindset
Comparing yourself and your success to others
Being impatient and having irrational expectations
Speaking to yourself with insults and judgements
Numbing your emotions with food and alcohol
Minimizing your progress and downplaying your achievements
Shaming, blaming and punishing yourself
Putting everyone else's needs before your own
❌🔪🙅♀️ CUT THAT S*** OUT!
THAT stuff is the real "junk" that is standing in the way of your success.
Not french fries or ice cream or Totinos pizza rolls (the super bowl halftime show has me feeling nostalgic...).
Because until you SUBTRACT the "junk" thoughts, beliefs and behaviors from your life, any success you have at removing the "junk" foods will be short lived.
So, while you are working on ADDING in more of the "good" stuff (like protein, vegetables, exercise, water and sleep),
I encourage you to also work on SUBTRACTING the real "bad" stuff,
