“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” — A.A. Milne
After 12 years with the company, I have resigned from Equinox.
It was "official" two week ago, but it didn't feel "official, official" until I cleared out my lockers this past Sunday.
To say that it was an easy decision would be an overstatement.
I was ready to move on, without question. But walking away without acknowledging the impact that this place has had on my life just didn't sit well with me.
I had been planning my departure since last year, but a global pandemic wasn't really something I had factored into the process.
I thought I'd have an opportunity to thank my coworkers, managers and mentors in a public way. Make a grand speech at a large staff meeting. Cry like a baby.
Obviously, none of those things can happen as I imagined considering the circumstances (except the crying part, which may actually be happening right now 🤷🏼♀️).
And that's ok.
What I can do is use this platform to express my sincerest gratitude for the opportunities and support I've been given, for the amazing experiences I've had and for the close relationships I've built as a result of working at Equinox.
I will always look back at this point in my life with fondness and appreciation.
Onward and upward!
Onward and upward!
The memories and lessons that I'm leaving with are more than what I could ever put into one email.
So, I will simply share you with these 12 bits of wisdom that I've gained over the past 12 years (because everybody loves lists!).
Set and hold boundaries. Your health and your happiness are your responsibility.
Growth is vital but it isn't always visible. Not all "wins" are tangible and measurable. But all "wins" are "wins".
Dry shampoo is life. No explanation needed.
Cry without apology. Be human and feel your feelings.
Kindness is always a good choice. And it's free 99.
Surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. You get to choose who you spend your time with, so choose wisely.
Work can be fun. ...if you decide to make it fun.
You don't need to change your environment in order to change. Can it makes things easier? Sure. But as the saying goes, "Wherever you go, there you are." You can change jobs, apartments, boyfriends...But things won't change until YOU do.
Invest in yourself. Through education, exercise and self care. Hire a coach and ask for help when you need it.
One can never have enough pairs of black leggings. Prove me wrong.
Set your own goals. Don't get caught in the trap of chasing after someone else's definition of success.
The universal response to the question "How many reps do I have left?" is two. It is always two.
A million thanks go out to my Equinox family.
But now...
